How Amps to KVA Converter 3 Phase Works
To convert amps to kVA in a three-phase system, identify the voltage measurement type (line-to-line or line-to-neutral) and apply the matching formula. The converter handles both measurement types automatically.
Select the voltage measurement type
Choose line-to-line voltage or line-to-neutral voltage. Line-to-line voltage measures between two phase conductors. Line-to-neutral voltage measures between one phase conductor and the neutral point.
Enter the current and voltage values
Type the current in amperes (A) and the voltage in volts (V). Use the values from the equipment nameplate or a calibrated multimeter reading.
Read the three-phase kVA result
The converter multiplies current, voltage, and the three-phase multiplier, then divides by 1,000 to produce kilovolt-amperes (kVA). The active formula and breakdown appear in the result panel.
Three-phase systems use √3 (1.732) for line-to-line voltage and 3 for line-to-neutral voltage. Selecting the wrong voltage type produces an incorrect kVA result.
Amps to KVA 3 Phase Formula
Two formulas convert amps to kVA in a three-phase circuit, based on the voltage measurement type.
Line-to-line voltage
Multiply 1.732 by the current in amps and the line-to-line voltage in volts, then divide by 1,000.
Line-to-neutral voltage
Multiply 3 by the current in amps and the line-to-neutral voltage in volts, then divide by 1,000.
