How DC Amps to KVA Conversion Works
To calculate the kVA-equivalent value from DC amps, enter the current in amps and the voltage in volts. DC circuits have no reactive component, so the result represents a numerically equivalent kVA value rather than true apparent power.
Enter the DC current in amps
Type the current from the DC power supply rating, battery system specification, or ammeter reading. Common DC voltages include 12 V, 24 V, 48 V, and 110 V.
Enter the DC voltage in volts
Type the system voltage. Battery banks commonly use 12 V, 24 V, or 48 V. Industrial DC systems use 110 V or 125 V. Solar array voltages range from 12 V to 600 V.
Read the kVA-equivalent result
The calculator multiplies DC amps by DC volts and divides by 1,000. DC power equals voltage × current (P = V × I), and the kVA-equivalent value matches the wattage divided by 1,000.
DC circuits produce real power only — there is no reactive power. The kVA-equivalent label signals that this value is numerically equal to kilowatts (kW) in a DC system.

One formula converts DC amps and volts to a kVA-equivalent value. DC has no phase angle, so power factor does not apply.
